To all Maldivians and the
NSS July 2004 translated with added graphics by Maldives Culture
Maldivians working in the national interest to get rid of slavery and dictatorship are being described as traitors to the people of Maldives. This is a total lie. Gayyoom asserts that Mohamed Nasheed (Anni) and Sappe' are functioning with assistance from Christian organisations to bring Churches and other religions into the land of the Dhivehin. Leaflets making these claims have been dropped onto the streets of Male' by the National Security Service (NSS). The Islamic Society of Maldives knows these claims are false and the society is responding to Gayyoom's nasty and perverted propaganda. Everyone knows that Gayyoom is addicted to power. Some think he will resign, but there are many indications this will not happen. Gayyoom and his partners in the oppressive rule of Maldives are spending large amounts of money to maintain their positions. Anbaree Abdul Sattar, Abdulla Yameen, Health Minister Ahmed Abdulla, Shireen and information minister Ibrahim Manik (Samarey), people like these are spending money in the islands and campaigning for support, contrary to law. From the president's palace budget, funds are being used to send people to Thailand for medical treatment. The influence and power of the island and atoll chiefs are being harnessed in support of Gayyoom's favoured candidates. There is no way that freedom of expression will ever reach all Maldivians unless we completely uproot these seedlings Gayyoom has planted. The government media and state finances are being used in an underhand and illegal way to trick people and obtain their support. Maldivians be alert! Be alert!
We call on all Maldivians to honestly and faithfully fulfil their national duty and distance themselves from the ways of the past where investigations are held under the orders of Gayyoom so that Maldive children are destroyed. If the leaders commit a crime they should also be punished. Everyone must be equal in front of the law. Justice and fairness cannot be established with torture and fear.
But you NSS members with your wives and children will only have this land to live in. Some people find it hard to accept that the NSS would want to protect the present irreligious and oppressive government. You NSS have a lot of power in Maldives, and you should not use it to suppress people. Your military power should only be exercised to protect the people from oppression, and to shield the country from foreign invasion. There should be no hunting of Maldivians. Holy Allah will judge your actions, so do not forget for a moment about that day. Human beings are sacred. Violating people's rights and torturing them is the gravest sin for which there is no justification in the presence of Allah. Do not forget this. Force should only be used to stop torment, not to initiate it.
These laws were made contrary to the Holy Koran and the tradition of Muhammad the holy prophet. The Dhivehi nation's constitution states that it cannot contradict Islamic Sharia. Gayyoom's sacrilegious acts indicate he wants Maldivians to become heretics and to remove Islam from this land. The laws of Gayyoom prohibit the most important responsibility that divine law imposes on human beings, the call to do good and not to do harm. Gayyoom has taken the position of a pharaoh and placed his laws above Allah's commands. He has bought the loyalties of some of the religious scholars with high offices in his government, positions in the discredited Supreme Council of Islamic Affairs and by providing other financial benefits. Meanwhile, those clerics who do not obey Gayyoom's orders are arrested and tortured. As of today, all the laws contradicting the constitution of Maldives should be abolished. Gayyoom has tortured many people using these laws, and many religious scholars have been prevented from expressing their opinions. From the constitution of Maldives: Every person who is charged with an offence shall have the right to defend himself in accordance with Shari’ah. No person shall be deprived of his property except as provided by law or Shari’ah. Where any law, regulation or any principle having the force of law is inconsistent with the fundamental rights stipulated in this Chapter, such law, regulation or principle shall, to the extent of such inconsistency, be void. The powers of the President shall be exercised subject to Shari’ah and the Constitution. Nothing shall be done in violation of Shari’ah or the Constitution. In this Constitution the word ‘law’ also includes the norms and provisions of Shari’ah established by the Noble Quran and the traditions of the Noble Prophet, and the rules derived therefrom. Judges oath: I 'will discharge the responsibilities and duties of the office of Chief Justice/Judge honestly and faithfully in accordance with the principles of Shari’ah and the laws of the Maldives'. |
