After the rain Ahmed Naseer April 2003 ![]() Sleep refuses to stay; the roof choir just drifted away After the raindrops beat the last beat Cool air dropped in and wrapped my feet A new friend to amuse and sometimes stay Why did spring arrive so early, anyway? After the chains dissolved in dust Doves drove in out of the dusk, Spreading smiles this way and that way Doors creak open; arms and feet find a new spirit At first my heart stops to beat the rhythmic beat Warm air drifted out and changed the scene I thought of missing the cue in the script Dreams wrapped in clay; a drop of orange, deep in the gray Sharp lines hopped in along with curves To give them blood and nerves Her wings fluttered as Grace smiled and shook the day ![]() |
