Notes from the NSS desk

Translation
People who work in the NSS [Maldives National Security Service] are very well-informed these days. They get trained abroad in high standard courses at government expense. It is often private companies which get the most benefit from these skills.

I am a classic example, and I don't say this without cause.

I have worked in the NSS headquarters as an investigator at ....... level. While I was there I was sent overseas to do a course. It was the highest course available for police. It was interesting how everything changed when I was sent away for training.

I was promoted to a higher position but my pay stayed the same. When I returned I found myself demoted to my former position. This has not only happened to myself ...

People from certain Malé families get promoted to Officer positions. One such example is ....... who is currently a ........ in the NSS. Even though the course he did was a much lower standard than what I did, he became an officer because he was from the right family.

Even more interesting is our task of misleading people from all over the world, and having to lie so many times. Even to the people I met outside the country. Sometimes I would meet foreigners in uniform here in Maldives, and then there would be another mountain of lies.

The day I took my oath with the NSS I was given advice about being faithful to the Maldives and its people. But when I became a fully fledged NSS member I had to deceive vulnerable people all the time.

We have to obey orders and my superiors order me to lie and deceive the people. Maumoon [ President of Maldives ] is not aware of these matters at all.

My superiors made me lie and torture innocent people to win convictions. Those superiors have taken unfair and unjust advantage of me. Today, I could be described as a person lost to lies and deceptions, and devoid of humanity.

I am working today in a ....... and trying not to feel like this.

But that was my experience working for the NSS.

If you decide to publish these matters on your website, perhaps it will happen less often ...
