First Maldivian President's son killed in Sri Lanka by Jayantha Sri Nissanka Daily News, Sri Lanka, 2 October 2001 Ali Nasir, son of the first President of the Maldivian Second Republic Ibrahim Nasir, has been found murdered at his Kohuwala residence yesterday morning. "He has been strangled to death at his residence at Balapokuna Road, Kohuwala," OIC Udaya de Silva told the Daily News. Ali, a businessman, was living with his son who is studying at an International School in Colombo. The autopsy has confirmed that he was strangled. A VCD player and Rs.8,000 were also missing after the killing, Police said. No arrests had been made till late last night. Ali's father was the first President of the Maldivian Republic from 1968 to 1978. Former Maldivian president's son killing — two suspects arrested by Norman Palihawadana The Island, Sri Lanka, 3 October 2001 Police have taken into custody, two persons allegedly connected with the murder of former Maldivian President Ibrahim Nazeer's son Ali Nazeer in Kohuwela on Monday. The suspects, residents of Slave Island were taken into custody by the Kohuwela Police who claimed that the forty two year-old victim had died from strangling and his arms and legs were tied prior to the killing. It has been revealed that several youths used to frequent the deceased's home. Police suspect that three youths were connected with the killing. The deceased Ali Nazeer and his fifteen year-old son have been living in their Kohuwela residence for over ten years. At the time of the incident his son has been sleeping in an adjoining room police said. The victim was discovered in his room by a house aide on the morning of October 1. Police said that they suspected the youths have been frequenting Nazeer's house. One of the youths taken into custody is a long time acquaintance of the deceased. Nazeer has been paying a rent of Rs. 85,000 for the house he has been occupying, Police said. Police are conducting investigations and have taken finger print samples from the place where the body was found. "So far we have not arrested any suspect in this regard," a Police official told the Daily News last night.
