Punishment for Political Crimes in Maldives

Sect: 6
A person who is alleged to have opposed an order of the state or the courts, and to have acted in a way contrary to public safety may be arrested in Malé, by the Ministry of Defence and National Security and the Ministry of Home Affairs and Housing, or in the atolls, by the Ministry of Defence and National Security and the Ministry of Atolls Administration; and these ministries may, if they wish, hold that person in custody in a way that is not harmful.

1. Anything contrary to the Pillars of Islam.
2. Anything harming public safety.
3. Any slanderous discussion about anybody.

Anti-government acts and civil strife
Section 29

Any person who attempts, or who is aiding and abetting, an anti-government act, that person's punishment is life imprisonment or banishment for life, or 10-15 years gaol or banishment.
