 Maldivian filmstar Sajuna Ahmed
|
A rising film star and TV producer have been sentenced for perjury by the court in Malé.
Sajuna Ahmed and Ahmed Zahir (Ummeedh) had been summoned to court by the Attorney General's Office after they made admissions to police regarding adultery allegations and signed the statements with their fingerprints
However in the court they denied both offences.
So it was proven that they had committed perjury.
On the 21st February 2001, Zahir was sentenced to one year in exile, and Sajuna was sentenced to house arrest for a year.
Sajuna has gone to Fua Mulak, the island where she was born, according to information received by Huvaas.
Investigations began into the Sajuna-Zahir affair when photos of them in intimate poses were leaked and circulated in the public domain.
The photos, showing the couple in bed together, had been taken during an official TV Maldives trip to Himandhu island in North Alif atoll.
Some of the photos appeared in websites recently.
