Exhibition Finale
Modern Coup Period

The most successful art exhibition ever held in Maldives was forcibly closed on Monday 19 March 2012 by a heavily armed force of riot police and soldiers.

The Maldivian Democratic Party's rally area had been described as an 'urban artistic intervention'. Basically, it was a collection of wood, plastic and cotton shelters which first appeared after the coup on 7 February.

The exhibition was at its finest for the finale. Light rain earlier in the week had prompted a flurry of renovations. Some huts now boasted wooden flooring plus linoleum, and insulation lined the better shelters which were steadily filling with furniture and other amenities.

Some MDP supporters preferred the open air.

Nattu, look! This is so much fun!

The majority of Vilufushi islanders on Thaa atoll are against the coup government.

Come out, people!

MNDF personnel smashed the MDP Hitadoo Haruge on Addu.
