An official government document gives the details: 'The judge conducted a very broad and generous investigation, and the jury found that Huvadhu atoll chief Veeru Ali Didi had been murdered. He was given a mixture of brewed tea and poisonous fish.' more Ilyas Ibrahim and presidential fanditha - Maldives 1993 'I instructed him to get eleven different types of plant tips, a scoop of sand from a newly forming sand-spit, and a screwpine flower, and then I told him that the fanditha could only be done in the person's own house.' more Arson

'At the start of the second half, three pigeons flew into the ground. All of the birds were coloured red and yellow Victory's team colours. One of the pigeons went towards the Valencia bench and team officials caught it.' more Fanditha spell to Dhaalum 'The Dalhan is the demon jinn of the small islands of the sea, from where it will hunt down survivors from wrecked ships. It is said to have a terrifying scream which incapacitates men before it feeds on their flesh.' more The earth moves for Maumoon 'This month's earthquake in Maldives is the lastest in a spectacular series of natural omens as the presidential referendum draws near.' more Fanditha Inc. - a meeting with the Blood bodun
'Fat Swiss bank accounts and retirement houses for our wives in London and Singapore,' they sing together in perfect harmony.' more The truth about cats and folklore 'If a black cat crosses your path, rest assured the day would turn ugly. If one of your loved ones sneezes just as you are about to leave on a voyage, you can expect a journey that is far turbulent than that of the Titanic. On the other hand, if a butterfly enters your room through an open window, then expect a brighter horizon for the rest of the day.' more Examples of fanditha in 20th century southern Maldives 'A 500 gm gold chain had been stolen. The fanditha man gathered the suspects together and made them sit on the earth. He made a design with a few lines in the sand, and then drove a steel nail into the earth. He told the people that the guilty one would be unable to stand up. One middle-aged man remained sitting.' more
'One British clerk spent most of his time alone. He seldom spoke to anyone, but he specialised in writing letters in a beautiful script. He often prayed in the Christian church at the base. One day another clerk, a Maldivian, asked him why he behaved in this manner, and kept himself apart from his fellow Englishmen. He was surprised to be asked this sort of personal question, but answered quite willingly.' more François Pyrard and H.C.P. Bell 'François Pyrard was shipwrecked northeast of Malé in 1602.
